What is "peer review" in the context of the scientific process?

a)
b)
c)
d)

That is correct.

Peer review is the assessment of a submitted article by fellow scientists (peers). It is not the evaluation of a journal and it is not part of the job description of the head of a publishing company. Occasionally, readers are allowed to take part in the peer review process as an experiment. Readers (possibly by invitation) can then add their assessment to an online article. However, this peer review model is not very widespread.
